What can you do right now, to increase your search engine ranking?
Well for starters, incoming links play a huge role when it comes to placing high in the search engines. The more links that point to your site from other websites the better. To the search engines, each incoming link counts as a vote for your ranking. The higher a site ranks, the more the its vote is worth.
It's also important that these sites that have a similar theme as yours. For example, if your site is built around photography software, you would want to get your link on sites that deal with camera equipment or photography tips.
There is a simple and free technique that you can start using this minute to get tons of incoming links to your site. After reading this article of course :)
Try this, open your favorite search engine and type in the following phrase with quotations marks: "fishing" "add url" . Hit the search button and the results will turn up numerous sites that allow you to add your website link to their directory.
Some of these sites will add your link right away and some might require a reciprocal link which means you add their link to your site. Reciprocal links can also help your ranking by positioning you as an authority if you link to other quality, similar themed sites.
Apply this technique to you own site by substituting the keyword "fishing" with whatever keyword applies to you niche. To find even more sites that allow link submission, play around with different combinations of keywords in between the first set of quotation marks.
Examples:
"football" "add url"
"football gear" "add url"
"fishing gear" "add url"
"hockey equipment" "add url"
"weddings" "add url"
"wedding merchandise" "add url"
"golfing equipment" "add url"
"golfing secrets" "add url"
"fitness products" "add url"
"adventure tours" "add url"
Next you can expand you search even more by replacing "add url" in between the second set of quotation marks with other phrases like "add link" or "submit a url". Get creative and try every possible combination you can think of.
Examples:
"add website"
"add your link"
"add a link"
"add a site"
"submit url"
"submit a site"
"submit site"
"submit link"
"link submission"
"suggest a link"
"suggest a url"
"recommended a site"
"suggest your site"
"link directory"
"add-a-link"
"cool sites"
As a side note, sometimes these link directory sites will have another text link that you must click to find the submission form. In cases like this, look for things like "click here to add your site" or "add your url" etc.
If you want to streamline the process of submitting your website link to hundreds of directories, significantly increase your link popularity and search engine ranking, then I highly recommend a hot new product called Link Directory Submitter http://www.GetDirectorySubmitter.com
This program has a very large, every increasing number of sites already built into it that you can submit your link to. Using this program is a great way to leverage your time by letting the program handle all the dirty work of finding these sites and manually submitting to them on your own.

Could Time Warner be using Black Hat SEO to Help Search Rankings?
This is an exclusive story.
Is it possible that MarkMonitor, Inc., who call themselves “a global leader in the fast-growing market for online corporate identity” has been secretly hiding links on behalf of TimeWarner? Is this being done on subdomains of timeinc.net in order to rank high in the search engines? You decide. MarkMonitor owns the domain name timeinc.net, a site with a homepage which re-directs to the main Time.com site. So it would seem they are running this site on behalf of TimeWarner.
If you go to the timeinc site and view some of the source code of the pages, you will find error pages that have links below an image map at the bottom of the page, links which are hidden from viewers and added to increase the search engine ranking of other Time Warner properties. This link-hiding practice is often referred to as “Black Hat” SEO.
An image map tells the browser how to display an image. That is it’s only purpose. However, some of the pages on timeinc.net have links hidden to viewers next to the image maps. If one views the source of sub domains such as img.timeinc.net or i.timeinc.net, it is apparent there are four links to other TimeWarner properties.
Did MarkMonitor, Inc., a huge company and a true leader in “defending brand names” online buy this domain, redirect the traffic to Time.com and find places to hide links to other Time websites out of pure altruism? It’s possible, but hard to believe. It should be noted that there are very important subscription pages on other sub domains of timeinc. This is not a domain that was cast away and has no value for linking.
If MarkMonitor purposefully hid links as it would seem, altruism towards Time seems an unlikely motive.
There is an increasingly fine line with what is acceptable and what is not for search engine optimization. At ClickStream, we believe the last group that needs to employ sneaky techniques to rank high are fortune 500 companies. In essence, these companies are the ones that have whole “rings” of websites. Yet, search engines will ban individuals that create multiple sites for the purpose of linking to each other and creating a link circle.
Time should be able to link in a circle with its various media companies. That may seem an unfair advantage, but they are separate entities that have the same parent company. What certainly seems unfair is for them to take further advantage of the circular linking by hiding links that only the search engines can see.
The recent storm has just passed over the BMW being removed from the Google search engine pages. BMW’s German site was found using “doorway pages” to build traffic and rank for their site. Google was able to document that BMW’s German website used the search results to get a top ranking if people searched for “used car.” Searching for BMW Germany will bring no results. BMW.ge was well ranked but it dropped completely out of the Google index in a matter of 2 days.

SEO Tools Poem
I am in my cave, and looking out kind of furtive,
The reason being, psychologically, I am low assertive,
It seems to me with dinosaurs just outside the cave,
Its entirely reasonable now, to be anything but brave,
But the tribal psychiatrist insists that I must face my fears,
And he issued me with stones, and little wooden spears,
And so I went out bravely, into the land of fools,
And got quickly eaten because I lacked the proper tools.
”You see things haven’t changed much,” the tutor whispered sage,
”Psychiatry still screws up, no matter what millennium or age”,
He pauses for best effect, and to let the chuckles die,
”What was needed was a plan, and the means to try.”
”So they tried all sorts of weapons, all sorts of cunning ruse,
But they always ended up, as just amusing little chews,
And just when they were despondent, try as they might,
Along came Dinosaur disaster, in a great big meteorite.”
”So there’s a lesson in the parable, of your cavemen of old,
Don’t listen to the shrinks and to anything you are told,
For if you are to triumph, over the odds against the rules,
You will need a bigger club, or ideally 21st century tools,
We don’t have dinosaurs now with which to fight,
But PCs and internets where things have to be right,
So ignore your Psychiatrist when problems rear their head,
Just go and see your Guru, and use his tools instead.”
The poem you just heard and wondered at in awe,
Is a totally new creation and not cribbed from one before,
And the Tutor is a Fowler, mentioned on the training pages,
Who uses methods slightly more in tune to current ages,
There may not be any dinosaurs lurking on your drive,
But these days a super virus may be all too much alive,
And though Google isn’t Pterodactyl proof, it avoids bad links,
And dodgy linking areas, and your ranking quickly sinks.
So crawl out of your cave and click on the link to tools,
That validate bad html and make your website cool,
That check your viability and show you where you are,
And put you back in charge, instead of watching from afar,
Google will love you, the more you do right and sound,
And these tools will pare away all that is not allowed,
And should you need an expert we are here never doubt,
Not with psychiatric counseling, but with proper technical clout.
One day I stepped outside my cave, and the creatures were in shock,
For I hadn’t brought a little spear, hadn’t primed up my flintlock,
Hadn‘t sharpened up my arrows, with my trusty longbow in tow,
Hadn’t brought a big pistol or a nasty grenade to throw,
No I had brought a massive tank, and though it was overkill,
I flattened all the bloody creatures that ever wished me ill,
And so instead of cowering, like me come out clanking,
And visit the Gurus tools site, and develop your prime ranking.

Keyword Specific Ads Equals Higher Search Engine Rankings
Keywords are an essential component of producing a web site. These are the words which the search engines use to help categorize and rank your pages. For instance, if your website is about 'writing articles' then your keywords could include 'writing', 'articles', 'article writing' and so on.
The advice from many web designers and search engine optimizers has been to find as many keywords as you can. They advise you to search for keywords using a variety of online tools and software programs which can identify leading keywords. At first sight this seems attractive, but it actually defies logic.
Let's take a look at the aim of a search engine. Its job is to track down pages that meet the specific search term that a web surfer has typed in. The more closely the pages it serves up match the search term, the better it is for users. Search engines need to be as accurate as possible in delivering the right material to their users. Otherwise the web surfer goes elsewhere.
Now imagine you are a search engine algorithm – the mathematical program which calculates the probability of any web page matching the search term typed in. If the page has hundreds, or thousands of keywords you'll be a bit confused.
For instance, is this web page about 'article writing', or is it about 'feature writing for journalists'. They are different things. You'll end up knowing the page is relevant but not that relevant. So you rank it down the bottom.
But what if the page only has the keyword 'article writing' several times? You're absolutely clear the page is about article writing and so you rank it highly. Admittedly, it's not quite as simple as this. But this is the principle of search engine technology. It is trying to find the most relevant pages that match the search term.
What this means for Internet marketers is that you need separate pages for each keyword. Focus each page on each individual keyword. Use the keyword in headings, sub-headings, the page text, the page title tag and in the Meta tags.
Avoid having pages which contain several key-words as that simply confuses the search engines and lowers your rankings. So forget the advice to have hundreds or thousands of keywords. Go for single pages that match single keywords and you will find your page traffic increase.
This trick also works for Google Adwords. Each advert should apply to just a handful of keywords - you get much greater click through rates and therefore cheaper advertising when you only have a couple of keywords per advert. If you have hundreds of keywords you'll find you'll get greater results by having keyword specific ads, rather than one advert with hundreds of keywords. So go against the advice of filling your pages and adverts with keywords. Go specific.

Black Hat SEO: Taking The Shorter Route To Online Success
Higher search engine ranking is not achieved overnight. It takes considerable efforts and time to finally get a website to the top of search engine results. One of the most effective ways to help a website establish successful online presence and ranking is search engine optimisation or SEO.
Search engine optimisation; however, takes time to achieve results. Some web marketers are not open to the idea of waiting for months to achieve the search engine ranking they are aiming for. This is the reason why some of them decide to take the shorter route to high search engine ranking. They do this by using black hat SEO techniques.
Black Hat Search Engine Optimisation Techniques
Some websites copy content from other websites. The search engines are always in the look out for quality content. But writing content can be so laborious and some web marketers don’t want to go through this task. So instead of writing their own content, they just copy from other successful websites. This is a trick that triggers the red flag from the search engines. Oftentimes, it results to search engine penalty.
Another major factor that the search engines are looking for is keyword. A website that is highly optimised for a particular keyword will rank high on the search engines every time that keyword is searched for. Some web marketers want to get the short cut top ranking by using keywords excessively on the website’s pages. The trick is using invisible keywords (they use the same colour for the keywords’ font and the page’s background) so that the keywords will not be visible to the site visitors. Just like duplicate content, this trick is meant to do more harm than good to the website.
Search engine marketing resources never fail to mention about the importance of links. Truly, links play a crucial role in the online success of a website. A website with the most number of quality links ranks top on the search engine results.
Some web marketers participate in link farms or other link exchange programs to inflate their website’s incoming links. The fact is that the search engines are not only after the quantity of the links, they are after quality as well. Links from low quality websites don’t matter much. And worst, if the search engines found out about the “linking trick”, they will penalise the website.
Just like anything else, there is no shortcut way to online success. Top search engine ranking achieved through acceptable search engine optimisation strategies has long term benefits. Black hat SEO techniques will only give short term results and worst it can get a website banned on the search engines.

When Will Google Update The Page Rank Of Older Sites?
There has been another page rank update in the last couple of weeks but it seems as though this has only affected sites which previously had a page rank of zero. The question many people are asking is when will google update the page rank of all of the other sites which already showed a page rank?
This latest update seems to be very similar to the previous page rank update in which the older sites were also not updated. When reading on various websites about other webmasters opinions on this current trend, I have found a number of reasons as to why this may be happening.
Over the last couple of years there have been quite a large number of link exchange programs which have been created. This have proven to be quite popular but are frowned upon by google as the people who enter these programs are in a way cheating to get to the top. Most people are aware of the importance of backward links and these link exchange programs make it very easy to obtain them. In clearly states however in the google guidelines that webmasters should not take part in these link exchange programs. Webmasters who still go ahead are at risk at having their site or sites banned.
The problem could be that it is very hard for search engines like google to establish which links that each site obtains are from these link exchanges and which links are actual real and valid links. It is possible that google is close to finding a formula to this problem and is delaying any page rank updates on older sites until all of the finishing touches are completed. My advice would be to never take part in any of these link exchange programs and that if you are currently in one, to come out of it as soon as possible.
There are many valid ways of promoting a website such as via writing articles and by having good content which will encourage other webmasters to want to link to your site.
I have to say that for somebody like myself who works very hard to promote my own websites, that it is quite frustrating to not be able to see the changes in the page rank, as when I see my sites go up in page rank it gives me a little boost and shows me that I am still doing the right things. In a way it should not really matter however as I am able to see my websites have higher rankings in the search engines, this itself of course is the most important thing. It is also a good thing that google are trying to stop the people who are trying to cheat their way to the top, that is of course if this is the real reason why there has not been a full page rank update for some time.

Content Development Increases Rankings
There are a number of things a website owner must do for their website to be successful. In order to appease the search engines, websites must grow and develop into a life of their own in a natural way. What the search engines looking for, more specifically, is quality content, and lots of it, updated frequently. Here are some guidelines for developing content for your site.
Every website has a variety of keywords and keyword phrases associated with it. These are carefully selected to entice visitors and bring popularity to the site. The site in turn should be designed around these keywords in order to be relevant and useful to users that come to the website seeking those specific products. These keywords and keyword phrases should be the basis for your content development.
Once you have you keywords in order it is time to start developing content. Writing content does not mean just listing out your keywords over and over again. Content needs to be coherent and useful to readers. Write quality descriptions about your products that inform and also captivate your visitors. Write content about your company that gives readers insight about your company as well as your industry.
Place this content on the site in text format so when search engines come to visit they can read it too and pick up on your keyword phrases. Large websites with lots of content tend to rank higher than small websites. Developing content is one of the best ways to increase the size of your website. Ideally, a website should have twenty pages.
Writing articles is another great way to develop content for your site. If you write a quality article about your products or services, you can submit them to other businesses or article submission sites in your industry. The more useful the articles, the more they will be spread around. When submitting the articles, be sure to put a link to your site so when people use the article you get a free link back to your site.
Search engines are content hungry. It is one of the best ways for them to find out what the site is all about. The more content you have with the more keywords, the more the search engines will associate you with those keywords. The more you are associated with your keywords, the more likely search engines will display your site above others in the search results.

Getting to the Top of the Search Engines
The best way to get free traffic to your website is by getting to the top of the search engines. Getting to the top of the search engines can be difficult and takes a lot of time, but it will pay off in lots of free traffic. Here are some ideas for getting to the top of the search engines.
Use a descriptive title for each page of your website. The first words in the title should be the ones you expect customers to search for the most. The title will be highlighted in the search engines, and you want people to see what interests them.
Placing keywords in the right places helps in getting to the top of the search engines. Search engines look for important keywords in the headlines, subheads, and first paragraph. While you should make the first paragraph as keyword rich as you can, don't sacrifice content to do this.
Search engines view hyperlinks as important, so use important keywords in hyperlinks. This works especially well when the name of the page you hyperlink to has the same keywords as in your hyperlink.
Write a website consisting of several pages. Each page should concentrate on one keyword or keyword phrase relating to your site.
Submit your site to the major search engines. You can do this by using the "add your URL" link found on the search engine site.
Links from good quality sites will help you rank well with some search engines. In addition, they are another way for people to find you. Find sites that complement yours and ask if they will consider reciprocal linking.

The Google age ban
This is not official as expected Google will not confirm this, but I have been researching a lot on this subject and fond this to be true.
I have a number of website less then six months old still not ranked on Google and sites that are older that are. The SEO information site news have run tests on this them selves and found the same to be true.
So why they have done this we do not know but all I can guess is Google are looking for well rooted sites on the search engine.
If you want to get ranked on Google you will have to use a domain name older then one year or at a push six months old.
Do not get put off by this as there are lots of other search engines out there, we do not no if the other search engines will copy this but if they do this would not be good.
You should continue to submit to Google and run business as usual but do not full into the spam trap, what I mean by this is submitting to Google over and over as you do not see your website.
Google can ban your domain and put it into the sand pit this is something else Google will not confirm.
New sites still get a page rank you no the green bar in the tools bar but the link popularity do not seen to be right.
If you found this article of some use then that makes me happy.
