Search Engine Optimisation: One Link is Better than Ten

That can’t be right! Shouldn’t ten links be better than one? It is usually the case where more is better. However, when it comes to gaining links, having more links isn’t necessarily better than having a few good links. In fact, having too many irrelevant links could possibly harm your website’s visibility within the search engines.

These days, search engines are placing more emphasis on incoming links to a website when evaluating rank. The reason being is because they are difficult to obtain from trusted sources (a "by the book" website such as the Dmoz directory) and it is a good way to partially eliminate the group of people who abuse the "on the page" factors of optimisation (page spamming). How is this so? Well, if you have someone who is abusing the "on the page" factors and they have no trusted links to their page (they will most likely not get any at all due to spam) then there is no chance of them getting a good listing. However, people have worked out ways in getting a large number of links, through link farms and other tactics, regardless of the quality of their website. As the search engines are aware of this, it brings us to the topic of how one link can be better than ten.

Obtaining one link from a trusted source can be very difficult in the sense that they do not issue links to just about anyone. If you have a good website with relevant information, then you will get them. It is for this reason one link from a trusted source can better a multiple of links from other websites. As a trusted source website is "trusted" by search engines, it will also trust the websites it links to. If you have ten links from your best friends, it will help you in some sense, but no where near as much as the one link from a source like Dmoz, unless one of your friends has a very reputable website amongst the search engines.

Having too many irrelevant links could harm your website’s visibility in the search engines. What is meant by this is having links from websites that have no relation to yours. An example of this would be a site about cars linking to another site about medicine (unless the sites are reputable and have a good reason for the link i.e. there is a relationship made between cars and medicine). Search engines will pick up on this sort of link and will give it no weight in boosting your visibility. Obtain many of these irrelevant links, then it could be seen as spam (like a link farm tactic) and that will lower the popularity of your website within search engines.

The key here is to focus on quality and not quantity. Gaining a few good / relevant links will take you much further than a lot of irrelevant links. To get these quality links, start off by placing your website in directories, but be sure to avoid any "on the page" spamming as this will not get you accepted. Once search engines have acknowledged a presence of relevant links, follow up on it and research some ways to obtain more. As time passes, you will notice that your website’s performance will increase, as the links age, provided you have carried out search engine optimisation. Avoid obtaining the irrelevant links even though it may be tempting to see fast results. It will only be a matter of time before a search engine realises the spam tactic, and as the saying goes "fast rise, fast fall".

Is Directory Submission Obsolete?

“Directories are sooooo 2003.” “Remember BlueFind?” “I thought Google hated directories.” Many people think that directories have become obsolete. The truth however is that while their SEO importance has decreased in the last few years, they should still be an integral part of link building for new sites. Of course, you should no longer submit to directories just for PageRank. As search engines analyze user data and integrate this information into their algorithm, the traffic you receive from a link becomes paramount again. (Shouldn’t it have been this way all along? I digress…) The point is, if you can get relevant traffic from a directory listing, then it’s still a viable marketing channel. And it can still be an effective SEO method, as well (we’ll get to that). Thus the question shouldn't be, "Should I submit to directories?", but rather, "Which directories should I submit to?" The answer is that you should submit to directories that either: a) will send traffic, or b) have listings that will be considered editorial votes of quality by major search engines. Did you know that specifically mentions both the Yahoo Directory and The Open Directory (DMOZ) in their Webmaster Guidelines (see http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html )? This implies that Google believes links from the two mentioned directories are indeed editorial votes of quality. These “trusted links” are the type a site needs to both break out of “the sandbox”, and to rank highly in the current (hard to crack) Google. Of course, I do recommend submitting to more than just the aforementioned two "directory kings" (Yahoo! and DMOZ). It becomes a matter of sorting through the low quality “rough” out there to find the directory “diamonds.” For starters, Best of the Web, MSN bCentral, Gimpsy, and Business.com all have editorial integrity at a level which probably ensures that search engines "trust" their links. Outside of these, there are a few others on the “top tier”, but beware of any that sell sitewide links, as that practice all but ensures that Google won’t trust the directory’s editorial integrity. What about the rest? Submitting to lower quality directories may not propel your site to the top of Google, but my recent research suggests it is still a very efficient link building method to build rankings in both MSN and Yahoo!. I have never been one to put all my eggs in the Google basket, so I still regularly use these second tier directories to quickly (and cheaply!) get my sites to the top of these engines. In conclusion, directory submission should still have a place in your link building strategy. If you are going for Google rankings alone, you should probably stick only to the top tier directories whose listings are considered editorial votes of quality by Google. If you are going for rankings in MSN and Yahoo!, you can cheaply build a slew of effective links by submitting your site to many of the lower quality directories. And of course, if you are trying to rank in all 3 major search engines, you should probably do both of the above. Either way, don’t write off directories just yet!

How to make a link page and outbound link structure?

This is a major question, which comes in mind of every SEO, link building company and webmaster's that what kind of link page should be on their site or what is the best way of giving outbound link. Every body need links and to get it one has to give back some thing in return unless your contents are so good that the site is voluntarily linked by others. To give back link you need some link page or some other way of giving outbound links. What method should be adopted for outbound links structuring. In my opinion you can adopt following :

  1. The best way to give outbound link is to give links within the content page as it is most useful for users who read your site contents. This method of linking is natural and long lasting as search engines want that the pages should be made for users and not for the search engines
  2. You can make 4 to 6 resources pages but each page should be on particular theme and object of the page should match the theme of your site. In such a way you will provide the users more related resources on same topic at one place. It will help you in making an authority page.
  3. You can also adopt the traditional style which is used in research papers as well as books also where links are given at the end of the page referred to as more references and resources. It gives more information to the users about any particular topic thus enriching their knowledge more. There are many other ways of making link page but the most common is to have a long page with huge list of sites on one single page and linking each site with its title or optimized anchor text without having any relevance between the sites. Such pages never bring traffic rather we just make it only for search engines, which is no doubt a Spam. Google mentioned in its SEO guidelines "Make pages for users, not for search engines ". Search engines are well aware of such kind of link pages and are definitely to be treated by search engines as "Link Farm" and will be penalized.

So in order to have the maximum benefit along with increasing traffic and giving the best to your site users make relevant, authority based link resources which would be beneficial for both your site as well as for the users.

How to Make the Most Out of Automated Link Exchanges

One of the early problems of automated link exchanges was that when you joined such a website and submitted your link, you would instantly get hundreds or thousands of incoming links. This might sound great, at first, but that was not true for the search engines. Reality shows that all the major SEs want to see a lot of link towards your site, but they want to see a natural link building process. When a 1,000 links are instantly directed towards your website, Google and the other search engines will see something suspicious and your web pages will not get the expected popularity and recognition. Here are a few things that you should consider when you are using an automated link exchange website or directory: Add your website in the right category – this is very important, as webmasters are looking for websites related to their own topics. Don’t place your pet website in the “travel” section of the directory, as that will make it very difficult for other webmasters to find you and initiate link exchanges. Create a well written description for your site – this is also essential, as you want webmasters looking for link exchanges to see that your website is (or wishes to become) an authority in the field. No one will want to trade links with a short, rushed description that is full of errors. Filter out unwanted categories – your wedding related website, for example, will not benefit much from trading links with online poker websites. A great directory which allows you to filter unwanted categories of topics and only allow link exchanges with related websites is: o http://www.MyLinkMachine.com Allow the link exchange process to be gradual – this is important as the search engines want to see a natural link exchange pattern. Don’t rush to approve hundreds of link exchanges each day. Take things slowly and only deal with a few dozen link exchanges each day – in the long run, this will be extremely beneficial as Google and the other search engines will consider that you are doing a quality-based exchange campaign, not a bulk links campaign. Allow the link exchange directory to be visible – some webmasters fear that by placing their link exchange pages where their visitors can reach them they will lose traffic. Although some visitors are lost to link partners, the same number of visitors is probably gained from the links you have on other websites. So don’t hide your link exchange pages and place a link to easily access them from most areas of your site. Your link exchange partners will notice this and this will also determine how many link exchange requests you get. Be constant with your link exchange campaign – you will need at least a month or two of decent link exchanges to start seeing results in search engine placement and traffic numbers. Automated link exchange programs are the best choice for keeping a constant link exchange campaign while also investing very little time and effort.

Build Your Website to Be Seen

When you are building links to increase your website popularity, whom do you link to? The question of where to link to increase ranking can be confusing. Logical thinking is needed to achieve link popularity in a natural way. Yes, indeed, Google page rank should come first and foremost. Page rank is part of the algorithm of Google's ranking in the search engine results. Other search engines use link popularity in their algorithm to evaluate your website as well. But page rank is only one of the 100 plus criteria Google uses to evaluate your web pages. Use the idea of page rank as a "tool" to help make decisions, there's no need to live and die by the results. Link popularity itself is merely one-way to improve your ranking.

In fact, there is a general fear of reciprocal linking to websites who inadvertently link to a "bad neighborhood" with penalties or page rank zero, passing on problems to you. Use your common sense. Is this a website you would want to visit or your visitors would want to visit? If the answer is no or you can't tell what the subject of the site is, make a note of it and keep looking. A website full of links with little content doesn't "make sense" because what benefit is it to you or your visitors? Of course you are going to link to your partners in business or maybe the small website that is doing a bang up job of selling widgets and providing widget information.
The idea of acquiring link popularity by linking back and forth to other sites to boost your popularity artificially is a popular method. But is it of value to your website? Ask yourself: Would you link to this site if link popularity in the search engines didn't matter? Would your visitor care about this link or find it helpful? Does the website have good content? Is this an opportunity for you to publicize your website by being listed there? Will this link cause you to spend a great deal of time worrying about it?
Is the link "just a link" or do you want a link from any site whose visitors care about what you have to say

It makes sense to list your website in the search engines and directories. In fact, one-way linking, such as listing your site in directories, is a good way to improve your link popularity naturally. Well, you say to yourself, of course I've done that. Besides the major directories, what else is out there? You'd be surprised at the amount of good secondary and specialty directories that drive traffic. Some even specialize in a topic - maybe your topic. If you have a product to sell, look at who your competitor is linking to. Search for directories and business sites on your topic. Look for websites that talk about the widgets you sell and see if they accept submissions to their directory listings in the category for widgets. Do they accept original articles, product reviews, press releases or white papers about widgets? If so, submit your topical articles and watch your link popularity rise naturally. With your good content on other websites as well as archived on your own website, there you have it, links pointing back to your website.

Finally, enhance content stick-ness and optimize your web pages using proper keywords in your site to develop your website so once your visitors arrive, they will want to stay. The World Wide Web uses linking to connect us all. By using hard work to create a quality website and common sense when linking you can stop worrying and start succeeding in internet marketing attempt.

All Link Types and SEO

This article covers a much discussed topic in the SEO community. Also, clients and often site owners come up with questions about what links to get, and how to get them. Note that I will not consider reciprocal links here, because of better alternatives, and because their effectiveness only applies to a small number of sites, who use them under 10% of their overall link ratio. I will review the main types you want to get for your site.

The natural one-way links.
This one is solely based in good content and resources. This is the safest method of link building available as far as search engines, which look at the “intent” of links. But it is also the slowest. If your site is new, then as part of its launch, submit it to niche web directories. Start with a few highly trusted directories, but do not have more than 10-15% of your overall links coming from them. Don't overlook industry-specific directories that may be paid or unpaid. These usually send highly qualified traffic and can be a real bargain. Directories will get you site many natural one-way links, at a natural speed of growth. This combination of type and speed is very beneficial. Look for sites that would benefit from offering users your content.

Linkbaiting, or link bait.
This one is not easy, and involves creativity. But it is worth every effort. Linkbaiting refers to content, videos, images or anything on your site that is created with the intention of increasing links to it. It is highly effective in getting links, probably the cheapest too, based on the cost of the “bait” you use, has no negative effects from the search engines, at least not for the moment, since all links generated look natural. When complemented by social bookmarking, the networks associated with these links will add even more value to them.

Paying for links, or paid links.
These links can have great short-term search benefits. These are good mainly for sites that have tons of pages with content, and have been well established online for years. In addition, these sites also have tons of natural links to them, again because they had been well established online for years. These are not recommended for new sites. Look for sites that are highly on topic with yours, and in complementary niches. A very important factor in the evaluation of these links, like any other, is age. And the latest “Google Slap” effect were sites fall pass the top 30 in the listings, is affecting primarily those which do heavy link buying.

Bad links and their effects.
Outbound links play a big role in the way search engines determine who your “neighborhood” is. Bad neighborhoods will affect your search engine rankings. Things like FFA (Free For All) link pages, links farms, etc, fall in this category. Note that this has nothing to do with your pages going into the supplemental index. That is not the kind of penalty these links cause for your site. And the amount of bad links considered is a big one. A small amount of them would not trigger a penalty, but make sure that your site is not related in any way to those link patterns.

How to Create Smart Incoming Linking

In order to get your site recognized by the main search engines and obtain a high page ranking, you need to be able to get your site noticed by engines like Yahoo and Google. While there are several more search engines out there, these are the big two that you want to get noticed, and ranked, by.
One way, a very big way, to get noticed is to create incoming links that are going to stand out to the search engines. How do you do that? See Smart Linking, but more about it later. You have to be honest with your links, you have to link to a relevant site, you have to use strong anchor text in your link to get noticed, and most importantly, IT HAS TO BE RELEVANT.
Today, search engines use spybots and cookies to bounce around the internet checking all of the information and links that are out there. A couple of years ago, search engines didn’t have that ability, so web masters could create links that were not truthful or relevant to the sites he or she were linking to. They used business directories like DMOZ and many others.
Now a web master has to be careful with his or her links. In order to create smart and effective links, a web master has to choose a site to link to that is relevant to his or her own site. If I have a site that sells ink for ball point pens, I would not want to try and link to a site that buys scrap metal. The bots and cookies would check the links, find out that they have no relevance to one another, and give me little or no credit towards my page rankings.
That is the key in smart web marketing: using smart incoming links. Another factor that makes links smart is anchor text. If I link to a site, the text that a person would click on to come to my site is called the anchor text.
For my pen ink site, I might want to link to the site that sells the ball point that goes in the tip of the pen. For my anchor text, I wouldn’t want to simply put “Click here”, I would put something like: “For the best ink to go with the best ball point, visit me.”
Why is that “smart incoming linking”? Because of the relevance and the anchor text. Search engines will recognize both of those factors and give my site a higher pager ranking because I am linking to a similar site. Not an identical product or service, but one that my product can help and vice-versa. One Canadian based web site Smart Linking (Canadian Text Links) has done it very well by allowing clients to choose the link and anchor they wish for a relatively affordable price.
Other factors that help make smart incoming links are linking to a site that is, itself, highly rated by the search engines and, getting your link on a webpage that has several relevant keywords in regards to your site.
While there are other ways to increase the power of your links, these are the foundation of creating smart incoming links and will help you on your way of achieving a higher page rank.

Why is Search Engine Optimization Important

If your business is dependant on customers visiting your website, then you should take a second and ask yourself if you're happy with the amount of business you're receiving from your site. If the answer is yes and you're overloaded with work, then you probably already had your site optimized or chose other means of advertising. However, being that you're reading this article, you are probably in search of answers or suggestions as to creating more traffic to your website.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's address why optimization is important. For starters, who doesn't want more business, right? I mean business is money and almost everyone I know enjoys making more money.
So, with that being said, seo is an essential part of the online community when it comes to actually making money.

The reason I'm saying this is because the web is a vast place.
Whatever your company sells or offers as a service is more than likely offered by many others. Some of your competitors have probably already had their site optimized. My point being is that there are probably 100's if not 1000's of sites ahead of you in the search engines.

A professional SEO can rank your site and bring EFFECTIVE traffic your way. Let's use an example. Let's say you're selling candles and you want your site to come up in Google when some one types in "candles".

Now there is definitely some competition going on to rank for that key term, but not a whole lot. You're competing with roughly 7 million other sites using that term. Now you're probably saying to yourself 7 million! That's a lot! It may sound like a lot, but it's not that bad.

The term "candles" was searched a total of 2,580 times over the last 110 days. This is according to a very accurate tool we use to find key terms to use. Let's say you rank #1 for that term and you get everyone who searched for that term to click on your site. Now, assuming you get 10% of the total traffic to complete a sale, that is 258 sales.

Assuming a candle is 5 dollars and each person only purchased ONE candle. 5x258 = $1290 Not bad right? The hard part is done. That's getting people to your site. Now all you have to do is sit back, relax, and watch sales increase. The possibilities are endless!

Why links count - The power of links part two

Do not get penalized or even banned from the search engines find out how not to get banned by your links.

In my last article we talked about why we needed links to your website, in this article we will cover some dos and don’ts.

Thanks to Google and now most of the other search engines there is now a new kind of spam, these are link farms.

Because the search engines now look at link popularity every website designer and promoter went out to get links to there sites, the easy way to do this is to join a linking site, this looked an easy task, but Google then said you will get penalized or even banned if your found to have a link farm.

Website designers and promoters jumped and panicked at this and some stopped all links that pointed out, this was a bit drastic.

The big question is what is a link farm? Or what is now known as Stuffing?

Lets pretend your website sales gold, go with me here Im on a role. You join a linking service and get 1000s of links on your links page and so you have 1000s of links pointing to your website, cool your shore to get to number one now.

If Google now comes to your site and sees 1000s of links, they now will look to see if they are relevant to your site, which sales gold. If your links are for dog food and windows you have a link farm or stuffing.

Only have links like Gold Cleaning, Gold rings, things relevant to your website else you could be penalized or even banned.

You can still have 1000s of links but all must be relevant. Remember to have a link from your main site to the links page.

I hope you found this article of some help. Have fun and play nice.

Unprecedented secret for getting backlinks

Uprecedented Secret Revealed!

How to get tons of backlinks to your website!

This secret apparently known only to some few people around. first, let me ask you: how much would you pay for more than 1,000 one way backlinks to your website? I guess it will be around 500$-5000$, depending on the quality of the websites.

Now i'll show you how to get that for a less than 200$, or even for nothing if you will be the one to do the work, which in my opinion is also fun! keep reading, my unprecedented secret in a couple of paragraphs.

The method for achieving such amount of backlinks is to give something that have high demand for free, and put a link to your website with the text "Provided by ..." at the bottom. Now, the free thing you give can be anything, and you won't be having to create it yourself.

Some Ideas
Here are some ideas for things you can give for free:

Software
Scripts
Articles or eBooks
Services like our ASBOX! :)

You can always pay talented people to create the free things, find those people in forums like Digital Point or go to Rent A Coder to find someone who will build you a software / free script.

The better than all method!
The answer is hidden in skins, yes... skins are a great tool to get tons of backlinks. Here is the approach to act by for getting good results:

1. Find a great web designer

2. Find a free CMS script which people uses and usually can be found on websites that have lots of traffic, a good example is phpBB. You may try to look for other forums / blogs / CMS scripts and find those ones that are popular but have already ugly skins created for them.

3. Pay the designer to create a custom skin, tell him that you are going to offer his skin for free. You may also want to give him credit, but you don't have to.

4. At the bottom of the skin, place a direct link to your website and add the text "Provided by [Your Website Name]"

If it won't give you traffic, at least it will give you tons of backlinks that will constantly grow as more and more people will use your skins.
