Search engine marketing simply means promoting a site online. In this internet age there are numerous online sites for various products and services. Simply having an online site will trim down your site just to me a mere presence in the World Wide Web. Websites must have appropriate publicity to make new sales and profit through these sales. There are a number of successful search engine marketing strategies that can help your business grow by leaps and bounds.
There are many advantages of using search engine marketing for your online site. Search engine marketing strategy is cheap compared to any other forms of marketing strategy. You have the option of spending less and earning more through this type of marketing. Another major benefit of this marketing strategy is that the advertisement for your site will be running for 24/7 throughout a week, month or year. Search engine marketing is very essential as search engines decide on the public pattern of online shopping.
A recent study undertaken by a leading research agency shows that 90% people make use of search engine to find information for products online. Major search engines like Google give page ranks to sites to measure their importance for online users. Different elements of designing and other things are taken to consider in determining the relevancy of a website. These findings have made search engine marketing all the more important for a website.
Search engines make use of spider programs to search a website. Spider program is used to gather all sorts of information about a site. Some of the information gathered by the spider includes instances of the site being uploaded, presence of links and the type of links, age of the site and such other things. Google gives page ranks to sites on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest ranking for a site.
Pay per click is another tool used for search engine marketing. In pay per click, you can put up your site for advertising in a search engine or search engines can put up some ads in your site for generating traffic. This is a good way for making your site visible online and also earning revenue through pay per click. If a site advertises directly on a search engine, it can be awarded higher search engine rankings.
One more strategy of search engine marketing is to create a buzz about your site in the internet. This can be done by making your site visible everywhere in the World Wide Web. For this the link to your site can be put on discussion forums and articles written for promoting your website. This is one way of bringing traffic to your website.
The content of your website is another factor which helps search engines in determining the relevance of your site in the internet. The content of your site must be updated regularly with all the relevant information. Remember there are different types of visitors to a website. Content must cater to the needs of one who is looking out for brief information and also to the one looking for in depth details about a product and service.
Search engine marketing is a difficult task. It is best to get professional service to market your site to search engines. There are many Search Engine Optimization companies that are capable of undertaking search engine marketing in a professional way. Adopting the proper search engine marketing strategy will surely spell profit for your online business site.

Part IV - Getting Your Site Indexed in MSN
Althoug MSN is lagging behind both Yahoo and Google when it comes to the ways you can get your site indexed, it is still one of the top three search engines, and it should not be ignored.
MSN offers you two different ways to get your site indexed, and you should submit to both. However, before you do that, make sure that you have optimized your website first.
You can get more information on optimizing your site for MSN, as well as tips on search engine optimization, here:
http://www.submit-it.com/subopt.htm
The tips that you will find here basically apply to optimizing your site for any search engine, but they are definitely worth the read so that you focus your search engine optimization efforts in a way that will get your site indexed.
As I mentioned before, there are two ways to get indexed by MSN. The first involves submitting to the Intomi index. The Intomi index actually powers the MSN search.
Inktomi is now also part of Yahoo. However, you should still submit your site here. This will allow you to get indexed by hundreds of sites if your site is accepted.
http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm
You will need to use a valid email address for your site. Make sure that you use an email account that you actually use so that if there is a problem, you can promptly fix it. You may also need to confirm your submission.
Keep in mind that there are no guarantees on turnaround, and there are also no guarantees that your site will be accepted.
The second part of submitting to MSN is actually submitting to the MSN spider. Rob Benwell, of "Blogging to the Bank" fame, said that he used MSN for his searches when looking for niches, because MSN updates more quickly than either Yahoo or Google, and this was why he used MSN to test his results.
This may be good advice. However, I believe that you should submit manually to MSN for the following reason: this is the number two website on the internet. It gets an enormous amount of traffic, and the traffic that this site brings you can help you with both your rankings, as well as being found by searchers.
ComScore Networworks reports that 48 percent of MSN searchers are more likely to buy, whereas Google searchers are 42 percent likely to buy. Yahoo users are 41 percent more likely to buy. Although these statistics were released in 2005, you can get more information from this site on demographic buying habits of searchers: http://www.comscore.com/
Now, you can use the link below to submit directly to the MSN spider:
http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
A word of caution here: when submitting to MSN, make sure that you understand the characters in the verification image on this page. You must type them exactly as you see them, or your site won't get submitted.
If your submission is successful, you will see a message that tells you your submission is successful and will ask you if you want to submit another site.
Once you have MSN crawling your site, you shouldn't have to resubmit.
If you follow these steps carefully, you should have no trouble getting your site accepted. Create great content, build links back to your site, and target the correct keywords, and you can get very high rankings.

Why Is Search Engine Optimization Essential to Online Success?
The internet provides users with a fast and convenient way to look up information and to make purchases. However, there is an unbelievable amount of competition out there and you have to be able to reach the consumers. Almost everyone uses a search engine to type in keywords or phrases to find what they are looking for. However, You may have found that there are pages and pages of hits.
The majority of online users won’t venture beyond the first or second page of hits in order to find what they are looking for. Instead they will do a new search with modified keywords. Therefore it is essential that you continually work to get your website recognized among the top listings on the major search engines.
The only way you can do so is through the process of search engine optimization, commonly referred to as SEO. This can be a very tricky area for many business owners and almost completely overwhelming if you don’t take your time to follow the entire process. All of the elements of it have to be in place for SEO efforts to be successful.
You have to carefully balance providing what the robots for the search engines want while maintaining information that your consumers will find interesting as well as understandable. There is a great deal of research that has to be done in order for SEO to be effective. You need to find out what the most common keywords and phrases are for your product or service so that you can add them to the materials on your website.
It is important to understand that your SEO efforts will never be completed. They will always be a work in progress due to the constant shifts in the consumer market. By adding fresh materials to your web pages the robots for them will continue to categorize your information.
The various search engines make money off the advertising that is on their pages so they have to be able to offer the newest and most relevant information for consumers. Otherwise they risk losing the consumers to other search engine sites. Therefore they are careful not to index duplicate information. This way you won’t type in a keyword and get 20 hits all with the same or too similar of information to meet your needs.
Almost half of the new online businesses fail because they aren’t engaging in such practices and therefore they can’t reach their target market. Before you launch your website or start advertising your products you need to have effective SEO strategies in place. There are several to choose from so look for those that will work well for your type of business as well as the budget you have available.
If you aren’t comfortable with doing SEO for your business you need to find someone reliable to do it for you. There are plenty of freelancers and professional businesses out there that specialize in SEO. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you can have a successful online business without making SEO a priority.

Search Engine Marketing – Exclusive Services
Get your site exposed. Are you ruining your own campaign?
Marketing is not something to be forgotten when delving into an online business. Marketing is in fact just as, if not even more important today in promoting a website than any offline business. So what does it take to market on online business? Well, it’s the newest strategy on the market and it’s called Search Engine Marketing.
In the same way a business would choose an advertising company to lead an advertising campaign, an online business should choose an online advertising company to lead their search engine marketing campaign. Effective marketing requires the experience and expertise of professional advertisers. For a website, this means knowledge and understanding of the internet, and more importantly, of search engines. Search Engines dictate the way people shop online.
A search marketing company is the best way to get your site some online exposure. There are a great number of tasks to get a site ready for search marketing. Keyword research, placement, and selection are all an essential part of targeting your market. Search marketing companies have the tools and the technology to select the best keywords and keyword phrases for your audience. Other important considerations for site include overall website design and theme. There are many factors in design that can affect the way search engines rank a website.
Website hosting is another important key to search marketing. Exclusive search marketing services include a complete analysis of your hosting account to ensure good service. If your hosting partner causes your site to be down frequently, it can be detrimental to your search marketing campaign. If your site is down when a search engine comes to visit, this can be bad news. It’s also important that you have all day access to your files to work on the site. Most importantly, there may be banned sites on that hosts IP address, and this can cause the search engines to automatically ban your site also.
Once your site design and hosting are up to par, search engine marketing dictates a vigorous campaign to market the site. Advertising consists of tactics to increase the visibility of a site, to get it noticed in more places by more search engines. A search engine marketing company will submit the site to major search engines, and other sites used by search engines to rank sites. Once a site is submitted, it must be maintained carefully and monitored frequently to assess rankings.
The industry of the internet and the search engines is changing everyday. To make a business successful, it has to keep up with the ever changing trends. A company with exclusive search marketing services can help a business meet its goals and reach success. With marketing a website, the guidelines are specific and the results are real and the success of a business is not worth gambling with.

Making Keyword Optimization Work for your Website
Keyword optimization is a tool that anyone starting a website (or trying to maintain one) should take advantage of. This tool can do wonders for a web-based business, and has proven to keep web visitors coming back to certain sites time and time again—if it’s done correctly. Here are some suggestions for making keyword optimization work for your website that could improve the state of your Internet business or informational website.
Test the keywords out yourself. When you’re thinking of keywords that will make your site more searchable, test a few out on popular search engines to see that kind of results a person looking for your site or a site similar to yours will find. You’ll be surprised sometimes to find that keywords you think are ‘common’ or ‘regular’ may not yield the results you expected. Try to think both as practical and as abstract as possible when it comes to keywords, and select keywords that you think are somewhere in the middle. For instance, if you’re opening an online boutique, you’ll want to input keywords like ‘boutique’, ‘accessories’, or ‘handbags’, because it is safe to assume that the people searching for your boutique will be looking for accessories or handbags. However, you may also want to use words or phrases like ‘online boutique’, ‘original designs’, and ‘boutique clothing’ for secondary keywords, so that if people are looking for something a little more specific, they can still be led almost directly to your site.
Find out how different search engines work. Another great way to make sure that keyword optimization is working for your website it to test out different search engines, and learn the ‘rules’ behind each of them. Use the keywords you have chosen several times with different search engines, so you can see just how effective they are. Some search engines yield better results when the person searching enters a short phrase (i.e. Yahoo), because more words offer more details, and the search engine can give more specific details in terms of findings. And, some search engines work well when using only one or two words (i.e. Google, Microsoft). Making sure that potential customers can find you no matter what search engine they’re using will definitely help to increase business and traffic for your site.
Change your keywords if necessary. Every now and then, you may want to change your keywords or phrases in order to make your site more searchable. This depends largely on the type of content that you’re putting on your site, so you may need to add a few keywords to your list to make sure that customers can find you easily. The more updated your site is, the more attractive it will be for new and existing customers, the more traffic your site will be able to take on.

Part V - Getting Your Site Indexed in Exactseek
Some may disagree with me on the importance of Exactseek. After all, Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the top three sites (not in that order), and then we jump to Exactseek, which is ranked in the top 2000.
However, in the search engine game, Exactseek is a major player with some pretty cool tools and some great stuff to help you market your business online. Whether you choose the free or paid version, you'll get great results, and it's easy to submit your site.
Exactseek is also an excellent way to help you get into the top three because of their spiders. This site gets spidered, and it also gets a lot of traffic. These are two of the reasons for its high rankings.
Although the top three provide about 80 percent of the search traffic these days, this site will help you work on grabbing the other 20 percent that might not find you because you aren't in this directory, or all of the other smaller search engines.
Unlike Google, which is a true search engine because it uses spiders to gather the links of a site, Exactseek is more of a web directory.
Since this is a web directory, you will only need to provide the top level domain for your site, and you should only submit your top level domain.
Before submitting to Exactseek, there are a few things you need to do to make sure that your site gets accepted.
First, you want to make sure that the metatags in your header for your page are complete. Unlike the top three, your metatags are very important here because this is the description of your site that will be shown.
Make sure that you write a good description, and that you properly target your keywords. Not only will this help you in getting your site accepted here, when the other major search engines spider this site, you'll be correctly spidered.
Also, when you submit to Exactseek, you need to provide a valid email address. The reason is that you will need to confirm your submission. If you fail to do this, you won't be accepted into the Exactseek directory.
You can submit your site here: http://www.exactseek.com/add.html.
If you are looking to get exposure more quickly, you will find that Exactseek offers one of the best promotion deals on the internet.
For only $12 per quarter, or $36 per year, you can get a featured listing. This is a very low cost way to get the word out about affiliate programs that you may be selling, and this allows you to be featured on 200+ websites throughout the internet.
Unlike pay per clicks, you pay a one time fee, and you can check for keyword availability.
To find out more, visit: http://exactseek.com/featured_listings.html. You will also want to read the help section prior to submission so that you fully understand the program.
Although Exactseek isn't exactly a search engine, it's still one of the best places to promote your website. Using Exactseek can help you get some of the traffic you won't get from the three major search engines.

SEO ‘Tools Of The Trade’
Before you start optimizing your site for search engines, there are some tools that you should arm yourself with. These tools can become your best friends when it comes to SEO, especially when you’re just starting out. The first and most important step in any search engine position campaign is recognizing which keywords you should optimize your site for, and there are several pieces of software that are useful for this, including Wordtracker, Optilink, Zeus, and Agent Web Ranking.
WordTracker's keyword research service is the only one on the Internet that provides a comprehensive database of the most popular keywords in a particular industry. It can help you recognize associated keywords that you may have never thought of. One of the differences between WordTracker and other tools is that it can spot subtle differences, for example singular and plural keywords, or often-misspelled ones, and tell you which versions are more popular.
Optilink has become very popular in a short period of time because of the power it gives you over search engines. Every site that links to you boosts your ranking, especially if its content is relevant to yours. Optilink helps you to come up with strategies to improve your link structure and get a better ranking. Here are some of the things it does:
1. Analyzes the link structures of your top-ranking competitors.
2. Tells you why your competitors rank well, so you can try to copy what they’re doing.
3. Tells you what kind of rankings you can expect if you adopt similar linking strategies.
4. Helps to monitor sites you’ve exchanged links with, to ensure that they’re still linking to you.
Zeus has an excellent way of increasing the link popularity of your site -- by exchanging with other sites that are related to yours, giving you a head start on your SEO. Zeus does the work for you, identifying sites that it thinks you should try to exchange links with. If you look for the sites yourself you’ll often find it’s not worth the time, but an SEO tool like Zeus lets you do it instantly. Once you’ve got links, you can manage and maintain them automatically.
Agent Web Ranking helps you to check your sites rankings – this is good to see how your SEO efforts are working. Many people just optimize and submit, thinking the work is done, but they’re wrong. You need to continuously check your site's rankings, and Agent Web Ranking is a reliable and quick tool for doing this.
The only real problem you might have with any of this software is that search engines can change the way they display their results, breaking the tools until their authors update them. This means that most position reporting software gets outdated very quickly. It’s not that much of an issue, though, as most software is provided on a subscription basis with updates included, rather than bought only once.
If you really want to stay ahead in the SEO industry, you should try as many different tools as you can. By paying attention to what tools others are using and learning how they work, you will have the edge in the SEO market. So get out there, and download these SEO tools of the trade!

Wordtracker: a Must for any Search Engine Optimization Project
While many factors influence the rankings of a web site, any search engine optimization effort isn’t worth even a second of your time without one and single unknown: relevant and competitive keywords.
Let’s examine an example: a local moving company decided to optimize its website. It knows (or assumes that it does) that the most popular keywords for their type of business are “movers” and “moving”. At a first glance, looks like everything’s fine: the keywords seem to be relevant, and should produce good results. However, there are two mistakes made here.
The first one is keyword relevancy. What’s the use for our local moving company of people that are looking for “movers” or “moving” in Denver, CO, Boston, MA or New York, NY, if they are located and offering services in and around San Francisco only?
Another mistake is keyword effectiveness. It’ll take much more time and effort to get top rankings for such popular and competitive general keywords as “moving” and “movers” than to get same results for something more specific and relevant, such as “movers San Francisco” or “moving San Francisco”. Not only are these keywords more likely to convert visitors to buyers, but also it’s a much easier and less time-consuming task.
If the world we live in consists of atoms, the smallest and most important particles in search engine optimization world are keywords. In fact, there’s nothing complicated about them, if one remembers three things about keywords: relevancy, effectiveness and Wordtracker.
Wordtracker.com is an UK based company that offers an irreplaceable search engine marketing service tool: keyword research and analysis. It helps to find and pick keywords that are both relevant and competitive. Relevant mean that the keywords are related to your website, and that these are the words people are typing in Google, Yahoo or MSN in order to find your kind of business. Another important factor in determining a “good” keyword is its effectiveness. Let’s say we have a keyword “movers” which has a record of appearing in Google search list for 1009 times; there are 15400000 different web pages competing for this keyword. This means that this keyword’s effectiveness index is 1009/15400000=0.066. This index shows that the keyword is far too competitive and you’ll probably end up somewhere in the middle of Google’s search results if you try to optimize your webpage for this particular keyword. A rule of thumb is to find keywords that are quite popular and at the same time have fewer webpages competing for them. A good keyword is considered to have an effectiveness index of over 100, although anything in between 10 and 100 can be targeted as well.
Needless to say, without having the right keywords that are both relevant and competitive it’s impossible to succeed in any search engine optimization campaign. Without knowing your niche words, you’ll probably end up competing against web sites with thousands of inbound links optimized by search engine optimization gurus and will be lost in millions of search results – no one will even ever find out you exist. On the other hand, all it takes to get your web traffic from 0 to couple hundreds a day might be something as simple and cost-effective as Wordtracker.

Search Engine Marketing
As part of your overall Internet marketing strategy, it is important to devote resources to search engine marketing. This component of your marketing mix has become increasingly critical due to the importance that search engines and directories play in how prospects access information. Search engines have the advantage of driving highly qualified traffic due to the self-selection process initiated by the searcher in choosing their search query.
Research shows that there are more than 8 hundred million people in the world have the habit to access Internet. 86% of them tend to locate information via search engines. In addition, research shows that most people will only look at 2 to 3 pages of search results, so your ranking among the results is becoming increasingly important.
When developing your search engine strategy you need to understand how search engines work, how they are different from directories, and how to maximize their effectiveness in making sure that your business gets as much exposure as your budget allows.
Search Engines populate their databases for search results through robotic software programs that crawl the web looking for content to index. This crawling requires that the software find text-based machine-readable content to index and categorize a site. The content accessed is from the meta tags (title, description, keywords, alt image tags), filenames and content on pages throughout your site. Spiders tend to look at the root directory, 1st level files and occasionally will spider your site to 2nd level content. To determine a site’s meta tags, right click your mouse and select View Source.
If your site has not been developed with search engines in mind, you could have difficulty in having your content properly indexed. Search engines also determine relative rankings of results based on certain algorithms that include factors like link popularity, site traffic, site content, etc.
When search engines first evolved, they were based on a “free” business model, where conceptually all sites had an equal chance of being indexed and displayed in search results if their developers optimized with some basic steps. While the basic steps are still an important part of your search engine marketing strategy, they no longer are enough. This is due to the fact that many search engines (and dot bombs) found that it wasn’t just about capturing eyeballs, but was also about making money. This has led search engines to modify their business models to capitalize on all possible sources of revenue generated by their traffic and/or technology. Traffic was seen as a logical source for advertising revenues and technology was felt to be transferable for use at other sites requiring robust search engines. To date, most search engines have not elected to go towards a subscription-based model where searchers get charged for accessing information. These new business models require that site developers work even more closely with marketing strategists to ensure that the most effective business decisions are made.

Why IS Search Engine Optimization SO Important?
If you miss the mark, search engine optimization can cost you both a lot of time and money, without getting you the results. However if you do it right, SEO WILL improve your internet business.
What IS the goal of search engine optimization?
The goal of search engine optimization is to bring new customers to your web site. SEO is about being found by the right people. It's about matching a prospect with the right offer. It is as simple as that.
What is NOT the goal of search engine optimization?
SEO is NOT about getting listed for every possible keyword. This is the biggest mistake that is made by webmasters and web designers. Most people try to get as many high search engine rankings as possible, AND for as many keywords as possible. That is not only a lot of work, it is also a complete waste of time.
It is not important that your web site is listed for a lot of keywords. It is important that your web site is listed for the right keywords, and that your web site then turns visitors into buyers. Without achieving this you will not be successful.
How can YOU improve your search engine optimization results?
1. Create convincing web pages
That really is a very important step. If you do not have web pages that appeal to your target group, then do not bother with trying to get visitors.
Your web pages must be designed so that your visitors become buyers.
2. You must also first create trust, and convince your visitors by making your web pages easy to use.
3. Find the right keywords
You must find the keywords that work best for you, and for your website. Build a keyword lists that is related to your business. There are many Free Keyword Generators that can help you with finding the right keywords for you.
Yahoo offer one here:
http://inventory.overture.com
4. You can then use the keywords that you find in a pay per click (PPC) campaign on say Google's Adwords, or with Yahoo's Overture. What this will do is give you a quick way of testing your new keywords. It is also important that you then track these keywords with a conversion tracking tool, which will tell you which keywords lead to sales, and which keywords are just a waste of both time and money.
5. Optimize your web pages for these keywords
Once you know the keywords that lead to conversions, (sales) you should then set about optimizing your web pages for these keywords. While PPC allows you to quickly test keywords, and you can see the results within only a few days, optimizing your web pages allows you to get targeted visitors, WITHOUT you having to pay for them.
Search engine optimization can lead to great results if you concentrate on the right goals. Search engine optimization is about improving your business. It is not about getting as much traffic as possible. Focus on your target group, and on keywords that work best for you. You will save a lot of work while at the same time increasing your profits.

SEO– Leveraging Your Content On The Way to Google Heaven
The Search Engine Optimization Quality guidelines have a direct impact on how search engines rank your website in search results and your website’s page rank. While they are listed as “suggestions” wise people are advised to listen REAL CAREFULLY when Google talks search engine optimization guidelines. Failure to follow them may have their website from being removed from Google. Worse than death (at least you have a grave stone) banishment removes your site from Google' and partner sites. Here are search engine optimization techniques to stay friends with Google and sleep soundly at night… (while thousands of people visit your website)
Enhance Content
First of all, forget search engine ranking and website design and concentrate on website content. Create a enough web pages to give a sense of what visitors will experience on your site. Email pages to people for their comments and feedback on your subject. Soon you’ll have a sense of what you have to offer and how to design your website. With the emphasis on content useful information to people, website design is logical and quick.
Site Maps
How will people reach the pages on your website. A proven SEO approach is to provide a simple hierarchy and text links for your website along with a site map. If you don’t have one, Google offers an online site map generator. It seems like an obvious search engine positioning technique, but worth repeating – a visitor should be able to reach each page from a static text link. Your site map point to the right page and also boosts your search engine ranking – not a bad deal. For large site maps… over a hundred links, create smaller site maps.
Web Page Hierarchy
An important search engine marketing tool is the proper placement of titles on your web page – H1, H2, H3, and so forth. These title tags guide the search engine though you page and help it determine what to read first, second and so on. The main subject of the page should be identified with an H1 title tags and secondary subject with an H2 tag and so forth. The proper use of titles benefits both the reader and search engine optimization.
Meta Tag Mania – Search Engine Marketing
Do you just go nuts trying to write the perfect meta tags? Join the club! While what’s in the meta tags are important.. how should we say, “It’s what’s in the bun that counts! In other words, search engine positioning techniques such as meta tags are secondary to what’ written on the page. Create useful, useful, entertaining content and your meta tags will write themselves. Be sure that your pages have the words listed in the meta tags and display important names, content, or links in text not pictures. Got that? See you in Google Heaven!

How To Become An SEO Ninja
Every website listed in the search engines has a position, or ‘ranking’, and each one of these rankings can change very quickly, in some cases as often as weekly or even daily. One day your website’s in a good position, then the next you’re wondering what happened to it. Staying on top of this situation is a must for any SEO professional – you need to become a search engine ninja. If that’s what you want to do, then you need to keep these things in mind at all times:
1. Good SEO requires frequent updates and ranking checks.
You might have a good spot today, but all it takes is for a few new sites to open, and before you know it you’re back down at the bottom. If you pay attention to your rankings, then you have a shot at fixing things that go wrong before your rankings fall too far.
2. You should check all your links weekly to make sure they work.
Maintain high-quality, relevant reciprocal links and check them weekly to make sure they’re working. Remove any dead links, as search engine crawlers may mark you down if they find them on your site.
3. Tweak and assess your website on a daily basis.
You need to continually assess and tweak your listing to keep your site in its proper place – that is, at the top. This ensures that your site is in the best position possible, and helps you keep your competitive edge.
4. Maintain the content on your website.
Update your content weekly at the very least, to make sure that search engine crawlers come back frequently. Even the smallest changes will be picked up on by the search engines and will help to maintain your ranking. If you can’t write, find someone who can: you need content.
5. Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in SEO.
If you can’t decide what you should be doing or you don’t want to keep up with SEO on your own, you could consider hiring a specialist. Consulting with an SEO specialist will still allow you to make your own changes to your website and learn which things work best, but you’ll have someone to answer your questions if you need them.
You should review your SEO techniques at least every few months, to see how the algorithms have changed and to devise new plans and strategies for increasing your rankings based on those changes. Any SEO ninja will tell you that there are only really two major search engines that you need to worry about: Google and Yahoo. You can do well even if you only have the time or energy to focus on these two engines. Being an SEO ninja is hard work, but it can be very rewarding if you’ve got the dedication for it.

What is Search Engine Marketing?
f you are a website owner, you already understand the importance of keywords and advertising in search engines. In order to make sales, websites must use the latest advertising technology geared toward the internet. These methods include search engine optimization and search engine advertising (pay per click) and are necessary for success in any online venture. Together they are known as search engine marketing.
Search engine optimization consists of a variety of techniques to increase the rankings of a website in search engines. Search engines base rankings on a number of factors that determine relevance of a site and where they will go in their search results. The search engines use spider programs which search out websites and, using algorithms designed by the search engines, gather all sorts of information from the website. Some considerations in the algorithms consist of things like age of site, how often the site is updated, content, links, and many other things. Search engine giant Google uses PageRank to measure sites, with 10 being the highest ranking which is given to very few sites. If your site has a 4 or 5, that’s pretty good.
Search Engine advertising or Pay per Click advertising is another tool used in search engine marketing. By advertising directly with the search engines, a site will be given higher ranking in search results. Search engine marketing also gives exposure to a site based on content, so the site appears in search engines when users are looking for a particular product or keyword. This targeted searching and advertising is dominating consumer spending. In 2003, $2.5 billion in sales came from search results, and that number is expected to grow 25 percent this year to $3.2 billion.
Employing these methods of Search engine marketing will increase your sites visibility in the search results. Both parties win using search engines. For advertisers using the best techniques of SEO, they will gain visitors who are looking for their specific products or services. When their business is put into the search engine, visitors are more likely to visit the site specifically for their services. Research also shows that when visitors come to a site through a search engine, they are typically more motivated to buy.
There are much more to these techniques than listed above. Search engine optimization itself is very detailed and complicated. To truly optimize your site, it is important to hire editors who specialize in SEO. And advertising too requires knowledge of the industry. It is very important to follow the search engines guidelines to the letter to avoid being penalized. A company that provides exclusive search marketing services will do everything from keyword selection to monthly maintenance.

Exactseek.com is another great search engine that relies on meta tags to determine your web site results. Through ExactSeek, not only can you improve your search results with the tools they give you but, you'll also improve your search results for other search engines that rely on meta tags.
I must also note that not all search engines determine your ranking the same and to state that would be a lie but this article will definitely help you increase your
chances at success.
By now, we should all know what meta tags are for and how to implement them. Ex. Title Tag, Description Tag, and the famous Key Word Tag. (If you don't know, search "creating meta tags" in www.google.com)
Back to ExactSeek, if you haven't already submitted your site, submit it here: http://www.exactseek.com/add.html
It doesn't cost you a thing but MAKE SURE that you already have quality meta tags in place within your site.

Targeted Local Search Engine Optimisation
One of the key elements to Internet and Online marketing is identifying your target market. Who are they, how old are they and most importantly where are they located? With the advent of more advanced geo-location software systems being used by Google we are now able to target very specific markets with our online marketing campaigns. The first step in this process is to write down and identify your market with the 3 questions I have listed above. Once you have done that then you should consider the following and address them in order to hone in on your target search engines and then consequently your target market.
I will use the example of a Web Designer and Developer in Melbourne, Australia.
1. The website should be hosted in the country and if possible the city in which you plan on targeting with your online marketing strategy.
2. The website should have on page search engine optimisation which is tailored towards the region - country - city. So, in other words these three elements, if they are identified as the target market, should be mentioned in titles, keywords, meta tags, content, on page titles, links etc within the website.
3. Any controllable external links to the website should have a sprinkling of the region - country - city within them, without over doing it.
4. The website should have a fully qualified domain name. In this case .com.au
5. The website should be listed in the regional Google search index. You can go to your local search engine and simply register and request for the googlebot to scan your website. If you host within the region and/or you have a fully qualified domain name then you should get listed within the regional index anyway but registering will triply ensure.
6. Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and then go to Tools->Set Geographic Location. Some sites target users for a particular geographic location. For example, a site may target all users within a specific country, or it may target only those users who reside within a very small geographic area within that country. Using this feature allows you to further refine your target your market.
7. Have a regional specific phone number. For example, for website design in Australia it would be 1300 880 841.
8. Get listed in local online directories.
9. Use a Google map that shows your business location. This will ensure that your regional association is further enhanced within the search engines.
Once you have done all of these things then your website should be fully targeted towards your identified target market. Now you just need to make your site interesting, make it sell and get it developed properly in order to do this.
